Christian Vater 1738
This instrument is kept in the “Germanisches Nationalmuseum”, Nürnberg.
The original was produced in Hanover in 1738 and is one of the most beautiful still existing German harpsichords .
It is also the only known instrument created by Christian Vater.
One of his sons, Anton, moved to Paris, where he continued his father’s profession, producing French harpsichords which he signed with the name of Antoine Watter.
This instrument is rather small, has brass strings and produces a very full and harmonious sound.
